4-RULES
The Regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009 – 2012 (RRS) and the rules of the International Star Class Yacht Racing Association (STCR).

4.1 Decisions of the International Jury will be final in accordance with RRS 70.5.

4.2 RRS Appendix P will apply.

4.3 The prescriptions of the national authority, the Deutscher Segler-Verband (DSV) shall not apply.

4.4 RRS 32 will be changed to provide that courses will not be shortened.

4.5 RRS 33b will not apply.

4.6 RRS 35 will be changed to provide that boats not finishing within 60 minutes after the first boat to finish will be scored “Did Not Finish” without a hearing.

4.7 RRS 62.2 and 66 will be changed to shorten the time for requesting redress and for requesting that a hearing be re-opened on the last day of racing.

4.8 RRS 63.3 will be changed to provide that only the skipper or the crew may represent a boat at protest hearings.

4.9 Prior to the first Warning Signal of the first race a boat sails each day, she shall sail past the stern of the Starting Vessel to be recorded. A penalty, at the discretion of the Jury, will be imposed for failure to check in.


5-ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRIES
5.1 Entries eligible in accordance with STCR 21, 26, 29 and 30 may compete.

5.2 Entries shall be submitted not later than 15 June 2009 online at www.rolex-baltic-week.com:

a) the Star Class Entry Form must be completed and sent to the ISCYRA Central Office, and

b) the Regatta Entry Form must be completed and submitted with the Entry Fee to the Kieler Yacht-Club

5.3 Only skippers and crew eligible to compete under the ISAF Eligibility Code, RRS Regulation 19, shall be eligible to compete in this regatta.

5.4 This regatta is designated as Log plus infinity. This means that the entrant and the fleet must fulfil all of the qualifications that are in the Log, and then can send as many from the fleet as they want.


6-FEES
Entry Fee of € 300 includes boat and trailer parking during the event, launching once, hauling once and invitations to social events for skipper and crew. The

Entry Fee must be paid by 15 June 2009 and is payable online at the same time as the online registration.

Coach boats will be required to register with the Organizer and pay a fee of € 60, which includes the use of the harbour ramp and mooring.


7-MEASUREMENT
7.1 When checking in each competitor will receive information about and documents for the measurement procedure.

Measurement will take place on 4 July from 9.00 to 19.00 and on 5 July from 9.00 to 17.00 at the Kiel-Schilksee Olympic Sailing Centre: boats and equipment in the area around Cranes North; masts and sails in the Vaasa Hall. Each participating boat shall have a valid Measurement Certificate and Weight Certificate. Boat weighing will take place when launching the boat.

Only boats that have completed registration, paid the entry fee, and passed the prescribed measurement check procedure by 17.00 on Sunday, 5 July 2009 are entitled to race. The International Jury may order that a boat be re-checked during the regatta.

7.2 Crews shall demonstrate compliance with crew weight limits in accordance with STCR 31.1.3 prior to 17.00 on Sunday, 5 July 2009 at the Race Office. Crews may be re-weighed during the event at the discretion of the Regatta Organizers.

7.3 Each boat shall display the sail number and national letters as indicated on the Official Entry Form and approved by the Measurer.

7.4 Bow numbers will be assigned and given to each participating boat. They shall be affixed to the hull according to the Sailing Instructions.


8-SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Printed copies of Sailing Instructions will be available at registration. They will be posted on www.rolex-baltic-week.com.


9-RACING AREA
Racing will be conducted in the area north-east of Buelk Lighthouse. Alternatively races may be sailed in the Strander Bay.


10-COURSES AND PROCEDURES
Courses and Procedures will be acc. to STCR 34.


11-SCORING
The Low Point Scoring System, RRS A, will apply, modified so that each series score will be the total of races scored with the worst score excluded if more than four (4) races are completed. Eight (8) races are scheduled, of which four (4) races shall be required to constitute a series (STCR 27.2).


12-BERTHING
Boats shall be afloat in the Kiel-Schilksee Olympic Harbour from 17.30 on 5 July 2009 until the conclusion of racing. The Race Organizers will assign locations for each boat at its discretion.


13-ADVERTISING
The event is designated Category C, RRS Regulation 20. Each boat may be required to display event advertising on the first 20 percent of hull length. While not racing, all boats are strongly urged to fly the event flag from the forestay.

The decals and the flag will be provided by the Operating Organizer at registration.

Every effort shall be made to retain the decals on the bows.


14-SPECIAL AWARDS AND PRIZES
14.1 Rolex chronometers will be awarded to the winning skipper and crew.

14.2 The Oskar Meier Perpetual Trophy will be awarded to the winning skipper and crew.

14.3 Series prizes will be awarded to the first eight skippers and crews.

14.4 Master’s trophies will be awarded to the first three skippers and crews in the Series aged 50 to 59 before the start of the first race. Competitors in the Masters Division will also compete for Series prizes (see 14.3).

14.5 Grand Master’s trophies will be awarded to the first three skippers and crews in the Series aged 60 or over before the start of the first race. Competitors in the Grand Masters Division will also compete for Series prizes (see 14.3).

14.6 Mid series prizes will be awarded to the first three skippers and crews based on the ranking at the end of 8 July.


15-DIRECTIONS AND PARKING
Race Village address: Olympiazentrum Kiel-Schilksee, Soling 22, 24159 Kiel, Germany.

Car and trailer parking spaces will be provided in the harbour area free of charge during the event. Parking is only allowed in the designated areas.

Direction by car:

From the south: Leave the A7 Autobahn (Hamburg–Flensburg) at junction “Bordesholm”, turn right onto A215 Autobahn (direction “Kiel”). Leave the A215 after approximately 20 km at the first exit marked “Kiel-Mitte” (direction Eckernförde/“Olympiazentrum”). Follow the “B76/Olof-Palme-Damm” towards “Olympiazentrum” for about 10.5 km before taking right lane when the two-lane road (B503) splits. Turn right at the junction after approximately 200 m into the “Fördestraße”. Follow “Fördestraße” for approximately 5 km before turning right into “Soling”. Follow “Soling” for about 250 m into the harbour area.

From the north: Leave the A7 (Flensburg–Hamburg) at junction “Rendsburg” onto A210 Autobahn (direction “Kiel”). Leave the A210 after approximately 20 km at “Kiel-West” turning onto the A215 (direction “Kiel-Zentrum”). Leave the A215 after approximately 3 km at the first exit marked “Kiel-Mitte” (direction “Olympiazentrum”). Follow the remaining directions as above.


16-ACCOMMODATION
The Regatta Organizers have reserved a number of apartments and hotel rooms at various rates for the duration of the event to make the stay at the regatta as enjoyable as possible. Please be aware that the first half of July is already high season and holiday time in Northern Germany. Accommodation reservations should be made as early as possible. 17-MEDIA
Media facilities will be provided on-site at the Race Village in Kiel-Schilksee. All visiting media representatives will be welcome provided they are properly accredited. The accreditation form will be available for downloading approximately six weeks prior to the event on www.regattanews.com.

18-CREW DISCLAIMER AND MEDIA WAIVER
All crews will be required to sign the Crew Disclaimer | Media Waiver upon registration at the Race Office in Kiel-Schilksee until the closing of registration on Sunday, 5 July, 17.00.

19-INSURANCE
Each participating boat shall hold Third Party Liability insurance, valid for the duration of the regatta, with an appropriate coverage (minimum of US$ 300,000 or equivalent) covering the person in charge (RRS 46) for personal injury and property damage. By showing the proof of insurance to the Operating Organizer the skipper and / or owner certifies the validity of such coverage. The Operating Organizer will not check the validity of this proof of insurance. It remains the sole responsibility of the skipper and / or owner that his boat has the required Third Party Liability insurance coverage. The Operating Organizer will only accept proof of insurance stated in English or German language. Personal insurance such as accident and health insurance are the sole responsibility of each competitor.

21-CREW DISCLAIMER

I agree to be bound by International Sailing Federation Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2009/2012, by the Sailing Instructions and the Notice of Race. I agree that the sole and inescapable responsibility for the nautical qualities of any yacht participating in the safety equipment on board and the competence, behaviour and dress of her crew is that of the Owner/Charterer of the yacht.

I also agree to take any and all responsibility for all damages whatsoever caused to third persons or their belongings, to myself or to my belongings, ashore and at sea as a consequence of my participation in the regatta, and hereby relieve from any responsibility, and agree to indemnify on a full indemnity basis and hold harmless, the KIELER YACHT CLUB, its servants, agents and sponsors (in particular but not only ROLEX DEUTSCHLAND GMBH, ROLEX SA and affiliated companies) and their representatives in respect of any claim arising therefrom.

I am acquainted with ISAF Part 1 Fundamental Rule 4: "A boat is solely responsible for deciding whether or not to start or to continue racing".

In any case, I agree that the KIELER YACHT CLUB, its employees, volunteers, servants, agents and sponsors (in particular but not limited to ROLEX DEUTSCHLAND GMBH, ROLEX SA and affiliated companies) and their representatives have no responsibility for loss of life or injury to members or others, or for the loss of, or damage to any vessel or property. This does not apply in cases of gross negligence or intention or culpable breach of a fundamental contractual obligation. In case of negligent breach of a fundamental contractual obligation, liability shall be limited to foreseeable damages.

22-Media Releases

Competitors and crew members on the competing yachts grant, at no cost, the KIELER YACHT CLUB, ROLEX DEUTSCHLAND GMBH, ROLEX SA and affiliated companies the absolute right and permission to use their name, voice, image, likeness, biographical material as well as representations of the boats in any media (being television, print and internet media), including video footage, for the sole purposes of advertising, promoting, reporting and disseminating information relating to ROLEX SA’s involvement in sailing events, in particular the ROLEX BALTIC WEEK (“the regatta”), and to the competitors and crew members’ participation in such events.
